Initial information regarding police violence during a house demolition early yesterday morning in #EastJerusalem:Yesterday early morning, Israeli security forces arrived at the Abu Khaled home in Silwan, East Jerusalem. The family has lived there for some sixty years. About eight months ago, two members of the family began building two apartments adjacent to the building. Palestinians are forced to build without permits in East Jerusalem as there is no proper planning for the growing population, and almost all building permit applications filed by Palestinians are denied, as was the case in the family’s applications. The owner of one of the demolished apartments was arrested for assaulting an officer and released to house arrest that night. The video footage shows police violence directed at the arrested man’s uncle, who had asked them to release his nephew.We will publish more details following an investigation of the incident some members of the family.
